This time a very special flight to my own home country, Brazil. On August 2, 2020, Emirates reestablished its EK261 flight from Dubai (DXB) to Sao Paulo (GRU) on their Boeing 777-300ER. I had been holding onto a voucher from a previously cancelled flight due to the pandemic. I chose not to request for a refund since I knew I would want to go home as soon as the flights started again. It worked well and I was able to be on the very first flight back to Brazil. Many routes which were previously served by the Emirates A380 are currently being served by the Boeing 777 instead. This is, of course, due to limited demand. The DXB-GRU route has not only been downgraded in its capacity by the change in aircraft, but also in frequency – EK 261 is down from daily flights to weekly ones at this stage. The offering during the flight however remains very similar to what was offered prior to the pandemic. I flew on business class and was served 4 meals which included: breakfast (hot), lunch (hot), light bites (hot) and a “Bistro Box” with cold premium snacks on a very nicely presented box. The food quality was very good. And while the 777-300ER is not my favorite aircraft (specially when it’s not the game changer or the newer ones with Falcon seats), I cannot say I did not receive value for money. Amenity kits are also offered on this flight as before.
